Nicola Galli flew to Lima, Peru, as a guest of the International Dance Festival, organised by the Oveja Negra association. During these 10 days, the choreographer worked with a group of dancers on his project GenomaScenico, a dance performance involving an interaction between performer and audience through a game composed of tiles that combine to create a unique and unrepeatable ‘genome’.
At the end of the workshop, the artist presented his work to the Peruvian audience, as a return of the journey undertaken with the local community.
“As I return home, I tidy up my thoughts for the next module of the workshop 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘢 𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘰, surprised by this inspiring and sensitive group.
Above my head, light wires clutter the space. Expanses of cables connect poles and houses. The convenience of having them outside says so much about this territory, about how much the urban dimension is perceived as a construction site on the move, in the pressing need for expansion and layering without regard for long-range quality.”
“Here is the pacific ocean. Today the wind is strong and sweeping away the clouds. Finally, Lima is covered with defined shadows.
This hour enraptures me. I feel a disturbing sensation that extinguishes that desire for the known world, that need to connect myself to the West by synchronising time zones, to push myself towards the islands and the strong ocean current.”
