Laura Cemin (1992) is an Italian artist active in the fields of visual and performing arts.
She has received an MFA from Umeå University of Fine Arts in 2019; previous to the Fine Art education, she has concluded a degree in ballet and contemporary dance in Florence (IT) and worked professionally for Ballet West, dance company based in Salt Lake City (USA). Her work has been presented internationally in galleries and museums, such as Bildmuseet (SE), Museum für Neue Kunst (DE), Tallinn Art Hall (EE) and Kiasma (FI), and in festivals such as 13festivalen, Gotheborg (2021), New Performance Turku (2020) and Performing Love in Kiasma Helsinki (2019).
In 2022 she has been commissioned a performative intervention by the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York. Recently, her choreographic work “How the Land Lies” has been selected by Aerowaves to be part of the Spring Forward Festival in April 2023.
Parallel to her artistic practice, Laura works as an independent dance dramaturg and guest lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Fine Arts.
Her multidisciplinary artistic practice is informed and influenced by her training as a contemporary visual artist and her background as a professional ballet dancer. Her work, often presented in galleries and non-traditional performance spaces, brings together elements of performance, writing, and temporality with the intention of redefining and expanding the liminal space between visual art and dance.
